Today’s Matchup – May 28, 2011

facebooktwitterreddit

Just like yesterday, today the Rockies have a date with the St. Louis Cardinals. Unlike yesterday, today’s date is in front of a national audience.

Juan Nicasio makes his big league debut against the NL Central-leading Cardinals, looking to get the Rockies back on the winning side of things. Unfortunately for Nicasio, his counterpart on the mound is none other than Jaime Garcia. Garcia is 5-0 this year.

The Rockies are now 7-18 in May and are in danger of losing 20 games for the first time since May 2005, when they lost 20 and finished May 15-35.

May has been 2011’s version of the usual April for the Rockies. By comparison, the Rockies were 25-23 on May 28, 2010, when they finished just one game out of the postseason, and currently sit at 24-26. So maybe hope springs eternal.

I’ll be unavailable all day Sunday, so watch for a game preview for tomorrow coming later today.
