Rockies infielder Jose Lopez has been designated for assignment after going 0-1 today in a 6-3 loss to the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks. His average fell to .208 on the season.
The Rockies now have 10 days to decide what to do with Lopez. After 10 days, they must either send him to the minor leagues, trade him, or keep him on the Major League roster. A likely move will be a trade.
Rumor floating around the Rockies front office is that Eric Young, Jr. will be called up. Young is tearing up Triple-A, hitting .363 with 17 RBIs, 13 doubles, and eight triples.
Also in transactions news, Felipe Paulino, who was designated for assignment days ago, was traded to the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations.
