Rockies Transactions

Woah. Busy day for the Rox and their minor league teams.

With the official placement of Jorge De La Rosa on the 60-day Disabled List (Moment of silence…. thank you), the Rockies called up Bruce Billings from Triple-A Colorado Springs. The move comes as the Rockies try to bolster their bullpen after the doubleheader yesterday, as logic would dictate that a few pitchers would be unavailable today. That announcement should come later this afternoon, if any are actually unavailable.

The big move hasn’t actually been made yet, though it’s likely. Juan Nicasio, the ace of the rotation at Double-A Tulsa, will probably earn his first big league call up within 24-48 hours, and is likely to start Saturday against the Cardinals at Coors Field. Nicasio has been impressing in Tulsa, amassing a 5-1 record in 9 games started with a 2.22 ERA. He’s thrown a complete game shutout already, and struck out 63 so far this year.

Whether or not he’d be more effective as a member of the starting rotation or better from the bullpen remains to be seen, but the team is willing to give him a chance on the hill Saturday. The Denver Post’s Troy Renck touches on Nicasio on the Post’s All Things Rockies blog.

Aaron Cook is close to rejoining the team, and Esmil Rogers is days from starting a rehab assignment.
