Morning Dump — Saturday, February 26th

There is a dearth of reading material this morning, but that’s okay. There will be Rockies baseball on television today. Ubaldo is getting the start, meaning we will get to see an inning and a third of him pumping fastballs down the middle. It also sounds like the regular position players — with the exception of Helton — will all get at least one at-bat. Regardless of Spring Training’s lack of intensity, I’m excited. At 1PM today, I will be watching baseball. Make sure to check back later this afternoon for a knee-jerk reaction to today’s Cactus League action. If you haven’t already, here is some stuff you should probably read:

Yesterday, Jim Tracy announced that CarGo will be a left-fielder this year. Last season, he played all three outfield positions equally. While Tracy was talking about CarGo, he was actually giving a huge vote of confidence to Dexter Fowler. Troy Renck discusses Fowler.

"This could be a make-or-break season for Fowler as a Rockie. He’s in line for a huge raise through arbitration after this season, and outfielder Charlie Blackmon is quietly pushing toward the big leagues. — Troy Renck"

The Rockies are excited to finally break in their new Spring Training stadium. Thomas Harding gives us the scoop.

"Tracy said on Friday that he had not completed the batting order, but starters would be catcher Chris Iannetta, Wigginton, second baseman Jose Lopez (acquired from the Mariners during the offseason), third baseman Ian Stewart, Tulowitzki, Gonzalez, center fielder Dexter Fowler and right fielder Seth Smith. Tracy emphasized that the key players will not be in the game long. Most will exit the game after their first plate appearance. — Thomas Harding"

Ubaldo is looking to build off 2010.

Esmil Rogers is trying to master his change. If he can grasp the pitch, he has a shot to make the Rox starting rotation this year.

I don’t like what I’m hearing about Aaron Cook. I don’t like it one bit.

Finally, it came out yesterday that Major League Baseball had to give the New York Mets a $25M loan. Madoff’s Mets.
