Rockies lock up Tulo for Life, agree to three-year deal with De La Rosa (Updated)

Troy Tulowitzki will likely be a Rockie for life. His 7 year, $130 million dollar extension means he will be in Colorado for the next decade. I’m not sure about guaranteeing ten years to any player, but if Tulo stays healthy, this will be a very smart deal. Congrats to Tulo!

The other big news is the re-signing of left-handed free agent Jorge De La Rosa. Colorado refused to go over three years, $30 million for the pitcher and supposedly there were several teams that were willing to go four. Either that wasn’t true or Jorge just wanted to stay in Colorado. Interestingly enough, De La Rosa has the option of re-entering free agency after two seasons. If he does exercise his player option and stays in Colorado for a third year, the Rockies would then own a team option for a fourth year. Exciting news for Denver! It seems the Monforts are serious about this franchise winning. Now they need to pick up a right handed bat.
