I think the long-term goal of the Rockies is to get to 2013 with a starting pitching staff that can eat innings. Ubaldo and Jhoulys are much better than that, obviously, but I wouldn't count on the Rox signing anyone who would be a block to Christian Friedrich's arrival (probably in 2012) and Tyler Matzek's likely call up in 2013. A contract longer than 3 years isn't going to happen with anyone, period.

I'm not so sure that other GMs are going to take a risk with DeLaRosa. He's a mixed bag with an electric backfoot slider and a head full of self doubt. Every GM in baseball has got to ask himself, which George would we be getting? It's only the wasteful few that will put something together and risk getting nothing in return. And if the prudent thing is to put together a decent base contract padded with incentives, the Rockies can probably match anyone in baseball and keep DeLaRosa in LoDo, where he's likely to perform his best.
